Drive Sync is an Android app made by Ahmad AlModhayan (Modhayan Labs, "we"). It keeps folders on your phone and folders in your Google Drive the same. This policy explains what the app accesses, what it does with that data, where the data is kept, and how to remove it. Drive Sync has no servers of its own: everything described here happens on your phone or between your phone and Google.
What Drive Sync accesses
- Your Google Drive files and folders, through the Google Drive API, after you sign in and allow access. The app requests one permission, full Drive access (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive), because you choose existing Drive folders to sync, including shared drives and files created elsewhere, which narrower permissions cannot reach. - File details from Drive: names, folder structure, sizes, modification times, checksums, revision information, and your storage quota.
- Your Google account's email address and display name, to label the account inside the app.
- The folders on your phone that you pair, using Android's all-files access.
- Network and device state (Wi-Fi or mobile data, roaming, VPN, charging, battery level, and the Wi-Fi network name if you set Wi-Fi rules), read on the phone to decide when a sync may run. Location permission is requested only because Android requires it to read the Wi-Fi network name; the app never reads or stores your location.
How Drive Sync uses Google user data
Only to provide the features you see in the app:
- listing your Drive folders so you can choose one to pair;
- uploading and downloading files inside your pairs, and exporting Google Docs in them as Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF copies on your phone;
- moving files that a sync removes to Drive's trash, and showing earlier versions so you can restore one;
- showing your storage quota;
- letting you browse Drive from the phone's Files app, opening only the files you open there;
- if you turn it on, saving a configuration backup (your pairs and settings, never file contents) in your Drive's hidden app-data folder.
Drive Sync does not use Google user data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not use it to develop, improve or train artificial intelligence or machine learning models. No person reads your data: we never receive it.
Limited Use
Drive Sync's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Sharing
Drive Sync does not share or transfer Google user data with anyone. Files move only between your phone and Google. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting code. If you choose to share a sync log from the Diagnostics screen, Android's share sheet sends it only where you choose.
Storage and security
- Sync settings, a record of what has been synced, activity history and the recycle bin are stored only on your phone, in the app's private storage.
- Sign-in tokens are issued and managed by Google Play services on your phone.
- All traffic with Google uses HTTPS.
- For encrypted pairs, file names and contents are encrypted on the phone before upload. The encryption key is protected by your phone's Android Keystore, and your passphrase is never uploaded.
Retention and deletion
- Files in the app's recycle bin are deleted after 30 days, or the period you set in Settings. Activity history is kept for 90 days by default.
- Removing a pair deletes its sync records from the phone. Your files on the phone and in Drive stay where they are.
- Accounts, Disconnect in the app removes the account and its data from the app.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on the phone.
- You can revoke Drive Sync's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. A configuration backup in your Drive's app-data folder is removed when you delete the app's data there from Google Drive's settings (Manage apps).
Children
Drive Sync is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
